Planned Parenthood is for abortion, they believe that every woman has the right to do with their body as they please. They also believe that everyone should be able to make independent and individual decisions about health and sex.

Political Activity/Current Lobbying or Legislation:
- Along with the repeal of "Don;t Ask Don't Tell" the people at Planned Parenthood are trying to attach an amendment allowing abortions for women in hospitals in military zones
- They are also trying to endorse a new morning after pill that can be taken up to four to five days after sex instead of the old pill that could only be taken three days after sex.
- They are also a slew of Pro-Choice top candidates for the upcoming senatorial and congressional elections such as Rodney Glassman, Barbara Boxer, and Christopher Coons
- WOMEN in the work force
- Disney
- Time Warner
- Chevron
- Mrs. Fields (cookies)
- Girl Scouts
- Nike

So, obviously their views are very liberal, and they actually seem rather influential/prominent in, uh...candidates. It'd be interesting to see if this picks up even more and really goes somewhere.
ReplyDeleteAlso I thought the morning after pill was literally just one day after, not three. Cool.
what does it mean when it says the girl scouts upport this? how do they support it whenthe girl scouts are sectioned off throughout the country?
ReplyDeleteLike, Jake, I too am questioning the supporters. I mean really now? Disney?
ReplyDeleteBut, besides that, I like that the group isn't only focusing on changing legislation by lobbying and attaching an amendment. They are also funding the research for new "medicines"/pills, which is nice...I geuss.
HAHAhAHAhAH! okay i feel like the supporters are the hot topic here, and the funniest part of this blog. I mean Disney?! shouldn't Disney be supporting abstinence or something? not killing babies! I want to see them make a successful movie off of that, since they support abortion so much. Chevron, i had to double check to see what they were because I was like what the hell does a gas company have to do with abortion? Mrs. Field's Cookies, just stick to making cookies please. And Girl Scouts, I mean i would've expected to have support safe sex or abstinence not abortion. Nike, i can understand since their whole thing is "Just do it". And what's up with all the politicians? At first I expected more women to support this interest group. But now that i think about it, all the cheating politicians probably hate having to support their bastard babies so it makes sense that they would rather just have them taken care of.
ReplyDeleteHey Disney is known for more than just that. Almost all their movies have people or animals that died. (Bambi's mom, Old Yeller, Mufasa). I'm not surprised one bit. (cough cough priest in Little Mermaid cough cough cough cough). As Cody said before, these people are obviously liberal.
ReplyDeleteI’m gonna repeat what everyone else has already said, but Disney? Really? (It probably has something to do with its former child Lindsay Lohan and its current child Miley Cyrus…just a wild guess).
ReplyDeletePersonally, I think this is just a depressing topic. Obviously a good amount of women support them, but I feel like they’re not getting the whole picture. Just my opinion.
Other than that, they seem pretty successful, with a good lobbying campaign and financial and political support. I definitely don’t agree with them, but they’re successful in what they do.
In regards to them being liberal and supportive of the morning after pill, i've always been curious about other people's views on the contraceptive. do opposers of planned parenthood/ highly conservative people consider it wrong? based on trimesters, there's the controversy of when abortion is consider killing a life, but it could technically be traced back to as early as 5 days after sex then, right? i'm sure only super radical conservative people consider this, but just food for thought.
ReplyDeletePersonally, i find the most horrifying part of abortion to be when the child actually becomes a fetus. I can see the pill, its only like 5 days, but when its 5 months in, there should be no going back. I laughed at the supporters too :P I too am surprised to see mostly men senators supporting this. I definetely can see thier arguement as in they can do with their bodies what they please, but at some point during pregnancy you are harming another body too who doesnt have a say the decision that will end their life. Tough issue.
ReplyDelete@ Mitch- We have basically the same thoughts on this issue. Pro-abortion is "pro-choice", yet the child that they're about to kill has no say in the matter. I completely agree with you!
ReplyDeleteI personally do not think that Disney being a supporter is all that surprising. Many of their messages on their movies are very liberal( not that is matters) but it is not a shocker that they would choose this. I think that the real issue with the abortion stuff is the idea of when a baby is considered alive and how much say so the mother should have in getting rid of or keeping it.
ReplyDeleteI find it interesting that there weren't any big name celebrities who were mentioned as supporters. It seems like this is the kind of issue that some of those people would be very interested in getting involved in. Like everyone else has already said, the supporters of this is quite funny. What do most of them have anything to do with planned parenthood and the idea of pro choice? Its not like I am going to choose between Nike or Reebok because of how they support this issue.
ReplyDelete@Kevin- there are big name celebrities. Just not included here
ReplyDelete@Jonah- way to start he firestorm here
@Sarah- true core anti-abortion types believe life begins at conception so morning-after pill=baby killing in their eyes
